It’s hard to believe we have already completed three successful weeks of school in Baldwin County. Walking the halls of each school, I am overjoyed at the learning that is taking place in our classrooms. Our students are ready and eager to learn and our teachers, administrators, and staff are prepared to educate students to be college and/or career ready. Since July, we have been busy preparing for this school year and making sure that we have programs and initiatives in place that will help move our school district forward. This year will be a year of development and growth for all of us as we implement our Strategic Plan, work to build lasting relationships with one another, and establish a learning community where all of our students will thrive academically. Thanks to the hard work and input of Baldwin County educators, parents/guardians, and community members, we have a newly-developed strategic plan that will be implemented this school year and that will guide our work over the next five years.
The Goal Areas of the Baldwin County Schools Strategic Plan include:
Goal Area I – To Increase Student Achievement
Goal Area II – To Increase Student and Stakeholder Involvement
Goal Area III –To Recruit and Maintain High-Performing Staff
Goal Area IV –To Increase Organizational Effectiveness
We must also focus on the mission, vision, and beliefs of the school system. The mission of the Baldwin County School System is to “Educate students who will graduate from high school with the knowledge, skills, and values to be college and/or career ready in order to be contributing members in a global society.” For us to achieve our mission, I will need the help of all administrators, teachers, and staff. I will also need your help and commitment to work with us to ensure that all of our students graduate from high school with the skills needed to achieve their fullest potential. As a community, we must all be committed to making sure our students understand the importance of education, and they never lose their passion for knowledge. For our Pre-K and kindergarten students, after their parents/guardians, we are their next teachers, and we have to help instill in them a love for education. Our elementary and middle school students need us to challenge and motivate them. We all have the important task of teaching them to dream as big as possible. And our high school students need us to ensure they are prepared for college, the workforce, or any other options after graduation.
Finally, this school year we are working to improve the way we communicate with our parents/guardians and community. In the upcoming weeks, we will launch a new look to our web site and launch a district-wide social media campaign with the creation of a district Facebook page and Twitter account. These sites will provide information on upcoming events, important district and school announcements, and updates on student and staff achievements. As we start the school year, it is imperative that we have successful methods of communication with the parents/guardians and the community of Baldwin County. Therefore, we will use these platforms to get the word out about our schools.
I am so thankful to be the leader of such a wonderful school district. I am also thankful for the administrators, teachers, and staff who come to work each day committed to helping their students, to the Board of Education for putting their trust in me, and to the parents/guardians who entrust their children to us each day. With your support, this is going to be a great year for all. I look forward to working with you.
